Battalion History

The Battlion was activated 1 November 1965 at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendelton California. The first to form were Headquarters Company and Service Company. On 1 April 1966 the Battlion was redesigned to 9th Engineers Force Troops FMFPac and on 2 May 1966 one officer and eleven enlisted marines embarked aboard the USS Mathews (AKA 96) and sailed from Longbeach, California for the Republic of Vietnam. The remaining force of the 9th Engineer Battlion landed at Chu Lai beach thirty days later.
